KGU Service-Learning Trip, Spring `09

The Sigma Society is a Kanto Gakuin University student group dedicated to volunteerism and social service. This year, we went to Thailand for 12 days to build a shelter/multi-use church building in an Akha village (Hoi Chom Pu) near Chiang Rai. We also visited a number of Christian ministries in Thailand to understand the realities ethnic minorities face in their daily lives. Dwight and Mr. Kanda (of the College of Humanities) are the faculty advisors for the group.

One afternoon, we visited a nearby town--Wawi. It's a Chinese immigrant town, and they had their own Baptist church on the outskirts. Services were held in Chinese and Akha languages.
